Well Body Care

We see care as being so much more than just a rushed visit in a paper gown.

Midwives make a difference. While the term “birth center” may be front and center in our name at the Burr Ridge Birth Center, the very nature of midwifery care combines evidence based practice with genuine relationship and supporting the whole person, at every stage of their life!

When seeking an intimate health visit, well body care, or consultation with one of our midwives, clients may be surprised that we allot plenty of time to connect and assess their overall state of being. Every appointment begins with a check-in on vital statistics that you measure—a scale and blood pressure monitor are tucked to the side of our clinical wing for you to utilize. Upon entering our calm, serenely decorated clinic rooms, soft cloth robes are available for those opting for a fuller exam. Our rooms are designed for comfortable conversation as well as attentive assessment, and every point of care has you at the center.

We acknowledge that when we allow a provider to touch our bodies and have access to our lived experience, we need a compassionate caring relationship where consent is always at the forefront.

Well body care for everybody

For some adults, getting pregnant is not a goal at this time (and may not ever be!). Midwifery care is a fabulous support for ensuring overall wellness with your intimate health. For many clients, wellness visits with our midwives are the main touchpoint with a health provider.

Clients are able to connect and receive care regarding:

  • whole body care, screenings and lab work

  • emotional wellness and holding space for challenges

  • holistic and pharmacological mental health support, resources and referrals

  • your menstrual health and what your cycles have been like for you, if you have them

  • any urinary or pelvic floor concerns

  • chest/breast health and assessment

  • concerns about and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (also known as STIs)

  • optimizing sexual health—validating concerns about comfort and difficulties and holding space for changes and exploration

  • ways to avoid pregnancy, including insertions like IUDs and prescriptions for hormonal contraceptives

  • decisions and referrals about hormone treatment for folks who are transgender and transitioning (and what to consider if pregnancy is future goal)

  • lifelong wellness regarding nutritional education, exercise, vaccines and other preventative health

  • Care for Tweens + Teens

Young people can meet with a midwife to discuss the changes in their body during puberty, even before their first period and without an exam. Teens can rely on our midwives for education, support and empowerment in caring for themselves and their bodies as they grow. Should shifts in intimacy happen, our midwives are great at providing options for safer sex. Midwives are also wonderful listeners and advocates!

  • Vitality in Menopause

Individuals who stop ovulating, stop menstruating and no longer are able to get pregnant have a whole new shift in needs—and our midwives can support them as they experience the wide range of peri-menopause and menopause. At this stage, heart and bone health become a new focus, as well as support for emotional wellness and libido changes. Our midwives can assist in this recalibration with both holistic therapies and medication, creating a new lease on life!
