Sarah Stetina, CNM, APRN-FPA - Director of Midwifery

Sarah Stetina (she/her) is a Certified Nurse Midwife with a commitment to providing evidence-based and trauma-informed healthcare. She first heard of midwifery during nursing school from a beloved instructor,  and upon learning that midwives were linked to improved birth outcomes, she knew the midwifery model should be the standard of care, rather than the exception.  Her pursuit of becoming a midwife was ignited after witnessing the exceptional care midwives were providing in home, birth center, and hospital settings during her time as a doula and labor nurse.

Sarah graduated from University of Cincinnati in 2016 with her Masters of Science in Nursing, and joined a hospital based midwifery team with a reputation for achieving excellent birth outcomes. During her time there, Sarah supported hundreds of low intervention births and championed for maintaining water birth and VBAC services. Her strong love for community based birth led her to eagerly join Burr Ridge Birth Center at its inception, and has loved being a birth center midwife ever since.

Sarah is an advocate for evidence-based care, client autonomy, and informed consent.  She prioritizes shared decision-making by putting clients and their families at the center of education and care decisions. She is passionate about respecting client choices, supporting physiologic birth, and creating a healthcare culture that is warm and welcoming.

She lives in Batavia with her husband, daughter and dog. She is an Aries, Enneagram 7, an avid reader, nature enthusiast, and world traveler.
